The Mastervolt Charge Mate 2502 (MPN 83302502) is an automatic battery relay that connects two battery banks when the voltage rises above a preset value for at least 5 seconds (>13V@12V / >26V@24V), allowing these battery banks to be charged simultaneously. When the voltage drops (<12.75V@12V / <25.5V@24V), the battery banks are separated again.
With an optionally available remote control switch, the Charge Mate can be used as a parallel-connecting solenoid for emergency starts.
Background on the use of battery relays
Secondary batteries are being used more and more frequently. Since a second battery can prevent the main battery from being discharged to the point where it can no longer start, it seems to be a safe and reliable solution. However, the second battery must also be charged regularly. Mastervolt offers the solution for this: the Charge Mate connects both batteries with a relay during charging and keeps them separated from each other at other times.
Important technical features
- for 12V / 24V battery voltage with a continuous rating of 500A
- switch-on voltage 13-15 V (12 V) / 26-30 V (24 V), switch-off voltage < 12.75 V (12 V) / < 25.5 V (24 V)
- switch-on delay ensures stable operation as it is insensitive to voltage spikes
- can be used as a link for an emergency start via the secondary battery if the starter battery is deeply discharged
- very low self-consumption at no load: < 1 mA at 12/24 V W
- integrated LED status indicator
- 4 different modes adjustable: on, off, auto, Start-Assist
can be used as a remote control switch (optional)
A single-pole ON-OFF-ON switch can be used for remote control of the Charge Mate. If the SWITCH contact is connected to the negative supply, the relay remains open. When the switch is in the central position, the Charge Mate operates automatically. If the Charge Mate is connected to the positive supply during a short pulse (ON), it remains closed for 30 seconds so that the engine can be started in the event of an emergency start. With a continuous connection to the positive supply (ON), the two battery banks remain connected in parallel.
LED indicator
The green "STATUS" LED lights up when the Charge Mate has connected the two battery banks in parallel. See the "STATUS LED" table. An optionally available external remote status LED can be connected to the STATUS contact (max. 120mA).
