How FastFind CREW1 works
CREW1 is activated in an emergency situation for crew recovery
An alert message is sent to all AIS receivers and AIS-enabled chartplotters within a radius of 4 miles (typical).
An AIS-SART alert symbol (image) marks the survivor's location•Accurate target survivor information, including GPS position, is displayed when the chartplotter cursor* is placed over the symbol.
Indication of the exact location, distance and bearing to find the person(s) in need of assistance
Not all AIS-equipped chartplotters for small vessels display the IMO-recommended symbol. At a minimum, they display the same symbol used for other vessels - normally an arrow. In addition, you can configure the display in the user settings to show the TX ID number, which for Crew1 always begins with 972. This allows you to distinguish the CREW1 from other vessels. All new ECDIS plotters (on vessels over 300 tons) should display the symbol correctly.
*For use with AIS-enabled plotters, please contact your plotter manufacturer for further information.
Installation and activation
The FastFind CREW1 is supplied as standard with a clip that allows the device to be attached to the lifejacket belt, as well as an alternative clip that can be attached to the lifejacket oral inflation tube. This clip can be fitted on either side of the oral tube.
Activation can be either manual or by water sensor activation. For manual activation, the red antenna cap must be pulled off to release the antenna, and then the activation tab must be pulled off. The device immediately begins transmitting alert messages. For activation by the water sensor, you must pull off the red antenna cap to release the antenna. If the water sensor embedded at the bottom of the device is immersed in water for more than 3 seconds, the device is activated and begins transmitting.
