Solar panels - 0% VAT for private customers in Germany

Conditions

Germany: 0% VAT on the purchase, delivery and installation of solar systems and energy storage systems according to §12 paragraph 3 UStG.

Notes

Accessories and storage systems delivered and installed together with photovoltaic modules are also VAT-exempt.
Extensions of existing systems up to 35 kW (peak) are eligible.
Retrofitting existing systems with a storage unit is subject to the standard VAT rate.

If the tax exemption is claimed without authorization, the regular VAT will be charged subsequently. For detailed information: §12 UStG for Germany. Further information can be found here.
