The thermostat-controlled compact cooling units are based on a Danfoss compressor that cools a capacitor in the cooling or freezer.  Danfoss compressors are very efficient. Hermetically sealed, they work in a mixture of oil and coolant, which contributes to very calm running behavior and very little wear.
