Description

The Lynx Smart BMS NG is a battery management system (BMS) specifically designed for the new Victron Lithium NG (Next Generation) batteries. These batteries utilize lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) technology and are available in 12.8 V, 25.6 V, and 51.2 V versions with various capacities. They can be configured in series, parallel, and series/parallel arrangements, allowing for the creation of battery banks with system voltages of 12 V, 24 V, or 48 V. The maximum number of batteries in a single system is 50, enabling a maximum storage capacity of 192 kWh in a 12 V system and up to 384 kWh in 24 V and 48 V systems.

Of the various BMS available for the new Lithium NG batteries, the Lynx Smart BMS NG is the most feature-rich and comprehensive option. Besides the 1000A version described here, it is also available in a 500A version.

Its most important characteristics:

  • Built-in 1000A contactor
  • for 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems
  • Pre-charge circuit
  • Monitoring and control
  • DVCC control loop and ATC/ATD contacts
  • Programmable relay
  • AUX port
  • VE.Can and NMEA 2000 data communication
  • Lynx distribution fuse monitoring

Built-in 1000A contactor

The contactor serves as a secondary safety system to protect the battery in the event that the primary controls via ATC (Allow-To-Charge), ATD (Allow-To-Dicharge) and/or DVCC (Digital Voltage and Current Control) fail, to deactivate consumers and/or chargers if necessary, and it is also suitable as a remotely controlled main system switch.

Pre-charging circuit

In addition to the contactor, a built-in pre-charging circuit prevents high inrush currents when connecting capacitive loads such as MultiPlus/Quattro or other inverters, so that no external pre-charging is required.

Monitoring and control

Bluetooth connectivity enables monitoring and control via the VictronConnect app or via VE.Can connectivity in combination with GX devices such as the Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX and the VRM portal. It allows cell voltages and temperatures to be read on the GX devices and the VRM portal. The integrated battery monitor provides real-time data such as state of charge, voltage, current, historical data, status information, and more. Diagnostics at a glance with

Instant Readout . This is an immediate display even without a connection to the BMS, allowing for an immediate diagnosis at a glance.

DVCC control with closed-loop system and ATC/ATD contacts

Compatible Victron inverters/chargers, the Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC battery charger, and solar charge controllers are automatically controlled via data lines from the connected Victron GX device (e.g., Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX) and DVCC (Digital Voltage and Current Control). The ATC/ATD contacts can be used to control third-party chargers and loads if they have a remote on/off connection.

Programmable relay

The relay can be used either as an alarm relay (in combination with the pre-alarm) or to control an alternator via its external alternator regulator. In this mode, the alternator is switched off two seconds before the contactor disconnects the battery, preventing damage to the alternator in case of uncontrolled battery disconnection. This protective circuit is not required when using a battery-to-battery charging converter.

AUX port

The advantage of the integrated auxiliary power supply (1.1 A at system voltage) is that certain devices (e.g., a GX device) continue to receive power even after the BMS has shut down other devices due to low cell voltage. If no charging voltage is detected within 5 minutes, the BMS, including the AUX port, shuts down.

VE.Can and NMEA 2000 data communication

The VE.Can enables easy connection (standard RJ45 network cable) and communication with a GX device. Since the CAN bus protocol is based on NMEA 2000 (and J1939), it is easy to integrate into a marine network and supply data to your marine MFD (Multi Function Display) (requires a VE.Can to NMEA 2000 micro-C interface cable).

Monitoring of Lynx distributor fuses

Read the status of the fuses and receive an alarm signal when a fuse has blown. The Lynx Smart BMS monitors up to 4 connected Lynx distributors and their fuses via VictronConnect or a GX device.

Victron DC Lynx distribution system

It is a reliable and efficient solution for distributing direct current (DC). Whether you need a clean, convenient, and space-saving solution for your RV, expedition vehicle, boat, or home installation, this modular system allows you to tailor your DC distribution to your specific needs. This system ensures proper distribution and protection of DC power for various loads and components such as batteries, chargers, inverters, and other electrical devices. It is easy to install and operate, making it an ideal choice for both mobile and stationary applications.
