The Smartsolar MPPT 250/85-MC4 VE.Can from Victron Energy belongs to the Dutch premium manufacturer's latest generation of smart solar controllers. Ultrafast power tracking and automatic power point detection in the event of partial shading are just two of the many highlights of this new device class. This model also supports parallel operation with other controllers of the same type.

Compared to the SmartSolar 150 series, the 250 series can handle a maximum PV input voltage of 250V. This is also one of the reasons why the 250 series solar controller family was able to increase its efficiency by a further 1 percent to a total of 99%, thus setting new standards across the industry. This value is currently the best of all solar charge controllers we know of. Unlike the BlueSolar family, the Bluetooth module in the 250 Smartsolar series is already permanently integrated into the controller, making the smart dongle unnecessary if you want to analyze and configure the controller via Bluetooth using a smartphone or tablet. Also new is the optionally available LCD display, which can be easily plugged onto the SmartSolar 150/85-tr as needed. The display then provides all the important information about the controller. If required, the MPPT WireBox-XL Tr from Victron Energy is the ideal addition to your SmartSolar charge controller. It safely covers the cable entries and the connection terminals of the controller and thus protects them from external influences and contact.

Configuration and analysis via Victron Connect App
Modern Apple and Android smartphones, tablets, MacBooks, and other devices can be connected thanks to the integrated Bluetooth module and the free Victron Connect app. The app can then be used to configure many important functions of the SmartSolar controller. Of course, it also provides all important parameters, such as the current solar yield, in real time.

VE.Can: the solution for multiple controllers
Using VE.Can or Bluetooth, up to 25 or up to 10 charge controllers can be connected in series for synchronous charging and connected to a Color Control GX or another GX device.
Each controller can be monitored individually, for example on a Color Control GX and on the VRM website (VE.Can) or on a smartphone or iPad (Bluetooth)

Automatic detection of the maximum power point in case of partial shading
In the case of partial shading, two or more maximum power points (MPP) may exist on the current-voltage curve. Conventional MPPTs tend to focus on a local MPP, but this may not be the optimal MPP. The innovative algorithm of the SmartSolar controller will always maximize energy yield by focusing on the optimal MPP.

High-speed MPP tracker
Especially under overcast skies, when the light intensity is constantly changing, an extremely fast MPPT controller improves energy yield by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and by up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.

Those who prefer to operate and configure the Smartsolar MPPT 250/85 directly can retrofit the Smartsolar Control SCC900600010 display. The display allows for easy configuration of the controller via keypad input and provides all important performance data at a glance.

VE.Direct data communication port
VE.Direct in text mode transmits all important parameters every second to other devices connected to the charge controller, thus enabling communication with additional devices such as the GX Color Control system panel.
