# Victron Energy Isolation Transformer 2500W 115/230V – Marine Shore Power Isolation and Galvanic Corrosion Protection
The Victron Energy Isolation Transformer 2500W provides galvanic isolation between the shore power supply and your boat's electrical system. Designed for sailing yachts, motorboats and marine installations, it helps protect underwater metal components against galvanic corrosion while providing a properly isolated AC power supply on board.
By separating the shore power connection from the vessel's electrical system, the transformer interrupts galvanic current paths through the shore power connection. This is an important component of a safe and reliable marine shore power installation.
## Protection against galvanic corrosion
When a boat is connected directly to shore power, its electrical system can become connected to the marina's electrical network and other connected vessels.
Galvanic currents can flow through underwater metal components such as propellers, shafts, rudders and other metallic fittings, potentially causing corrosion over time.
The Victron Isolation Transformer creates complete galvanic isolation between the primary and secondary windings. Power is transferred magnetically without a direct electrical connection between the shore power supply and the vessel's AC system.
This interrupts galvanic current paths through the shore power connection. A separate galvanic isolator is not required for this isolation function.
## Improved electrical safety on board
The isolation transformer provides a separate secondary AC supply for the vessel.
For effective residual-current protection, the secondary installation must be configured according to Victron's instructions. This includes the correct neutral-to-earth (N-PE) connection on the secondary side and the installation of a suitable RCD.
The transformer enclosure must be connected to the vessel's grounding system.
## Low-noise toroidal transformer technology
The Victron Isolation Transformer uses a toroidal transformer design. This construction offers low operating noise and relatively low weight, making it particularly suitable for installation on boats and yachts.
The compact aluminium enclosure is designed for practical onboard installation.
## Integrated soft start
The built-in soft-start circuit limits the high inrush current normally associated with switching on a transformer.
This reduces the risk of tripping the marina's shore power circuit breaker during startup, particularly where the available shore power supply is limited.
## Flexible 115V and 230V configuration
The Victron Isolation Transformer 2500W can be manually configured for different input and output voltage combinations.
Supported configurations include:
- 115V input to 120V output
- 230V input to 240V output
- 115V input to 240V output
- 230V input to 120V output
Input and output configurations are selected internally using connection jumpers. This is a manually configured model, not an automatic voltage selection transformer.
With a rated power of 2500W, it delivers up to 22A at 115V or 11A at 230V.
## Shore earth connection for winter storage
For situations where the vessel is out of the water, such as winter storage or maintenance on land, Victron provides a dedicated connection for linking the shore power earth to the vessel's earth.
This connection must be configured and disconnected according to the manufacturer's installation instructions when the vessel returns to the water.
