Description

The Victron Battery-Protect BP-220 (MPN BPR0000220400) disconnects the battery from the less important consumers before it is completely discharged (which would damage it) or before it no longer has enough energy to start the engine etc. In addition, the BP series has overvoltage protection, which switches off the load at 16V or 32V battery voltage and protects it from damage. The BP supports AGM, lead acid, gel and lithium batteries.

6 different switch-off thresholds can be set

The battery protect is very flexible and can be set to different cut-off voltages. The following switch-off thresholds can be activated on the device: 10.5V / 21V, 10V / 20V, 9.5V / 19V, 11.25V / 22.5V, 11.5V / 23V,11.8V 23.6V

There are different restart thresholds that can be selected for most switch-off thresholds. This device is the perfect protective device for your battery and ensures maximum service life, because most voltage converters or charge controllers have undervoltage protection, but this only intervenes at fairly low values, which are usually in the range of 10.5V / 21V . The higher this switch-off threshold is, the longer you will be able to enjoy your batteries, which are usually quite expensive.

essential product features summarized

  • For 12V and 24V batteries with automatic detection of the voltage range of the battery bank
  • 6 different switch-off voltages selectable
  • 100A maximum continuous current
  • Simple programming and status display of the settings via a seven-segment display
  • Extra mode for lithium batteries - in this mode the BP can be controlled by the VE.Bus BMS
  • very low power consumption
  • Explosion protection through integrated MOSFET switches that replace the relays and thus reduce the risk of sparking to zero
  • integrated alarm output
Delayed alarm output

The alarm output is then activated when the battery voltage falls below the preset cut-off value for more than 12 seconds. Turning on the engine will therefore not activate the alarm. The alarm output is a short circuit protected open collector output connected to the negative (minus) rail. Max current 50mA. The alarm output is normally used to activate an audible signal, LED or relay.

Load disconnection and reconnection delay

The load is switched off 90 seconds after the alarm is activated. If the battery voltage rises again within this period (e.g. after the engine has been started) up to the reconnection threshold, the load will not be disconnected. The load will be reconnected 30 seconds after the battery voltage has exceeded the preset reconnection voltage level.

Note deep discharge protection:
When using the Battery Protect in connection with voltage converters, there may be problems with the restart function. Larger VT models (>1500W) may require very high capacitor current during power-up which may put the BP into fault mode. This can be avoided by briefly switching the voltage converter off and on again.
The protective function of the BP remains.
