The VE.Bus BMS from Victron Energy (MPN) is a battery management system that is perfectly designed for Victron's lithium batteries with VE.Bus connection, but can also work with corresponding batteries from other manufacturers. Each individual cell of a LiFePO4 battery must be protected against overvoltage, undervoltage and overtemperature. This is exactly the task that the VE.BUS BMS takes on. The product is suitable for protecting 12V, 24V and 48V battery banks and operates in an operating voltage range of 9 – 70 VDC.

VE-BUS BMS in combination with Victron's LiFePO4 batteries

Victron LiFePO4 batteries have built in Cell Balance, Temperature and Voltage Control (BTV) They connect to the VE.Bus BMS via two M8 bullet connector cable sets. The BTVs of several batteries can be linked together. Up to five batteries can be connected in parallel and up to four batteries in series (BTVs are simply daisy-chained), allowing a 48V battery bank of up to 1500Ah to be assembled. Core tasks of the Victron VE.Bus BMS

  • Switching off or disconnecting loads in the event of an imminent undervoltage
  • Reduction of charging current in case of imminent cell overvoltage or overtemperature (only for VE.Bus products)
  • Switching off or disconnecting the battery chargers in the event of an imminent cell overvoltage or overtemperature

Communicates with all VE.Bus products

The VE.Bus BMS can be connected to a MultiPlus, Quattro or Phoenix inverter device. The connection is made using a standard RJ45 UTP cable.

The VE.Bus BMS in interaction with other batteries

LiFePO4 batteries from other manufacturers can be controlled with the device as follows:

"Load Disconnect"

The Load Disconnect output is normally HIGH and is set to free floating when cell undervoltage is imminent. Maximum current: 2A.

The "Load Disconnect" output can be used to control the following functions:

  • remote switching on/off of a load and/or
  • remote switching on/off of an electronic load switch (BatteryProtect) )

"Charge Disconnect"

The Charge Disconnect output is normally HIGH and becomes free floating when a cell overvoltage or overtemperature condition is imminent. Maximum Current: 10mA

The Charge Disconnect output can be used to control the following functions:

  • remote switching on/off of a charger
  • and/or a Cyrix-Li charger relay
  • and/or a Cyrix-Li-ct battery coupler
